Speaking exclusively to Emily Millett, general manager, The Cove Rotana Resort, Ras Al Khaimah (RAK), Andreas Mueller sheds light on the hotel’s exciting news.

TTG:  Please share with our readers The Cove Rotana Resort’s very latest news.

The Coves extension construction of 145 family friendly rooms is currently in progress and on target to open in Q2 of 2017. The extension will have 145 modern and well-appointed rooms and suites, with connecting family units, two pools of which one will have three exciting waterslides, an all-day dining restaurant and a pool bar.

Guests of course enjoy full access to the existing resort facilities also.

TTG: How has 2016 been for you and what trends have you noticed?

The Cove Rotana Resort has had a great year so far, and business has been and is buoyant.

We have noticed a trend of ‘Staycations’ this summer with an increase of local residents spending short breaks in RAK. Booking trends are very last minute and booked online.

We are driving international business with our international GSO’s and the tourism authority- targeted sales and marketing activities are planned to increase awareness and arrivals into the emirate, and ultimately the resort.

TTG:  How have you seen the tourism industry in the GCC change and evolve over the last year what do you think influences these changes?

RAK is a very popular getaway for residents living in Dubai and Abu Dhabi – especially this summer with the combination of the Eid weekends and the summer school holiday, which has brought forth a record numbers of visitors to the destination.

This is definitely influenced by an innovative and creative marketing campaign by the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Authority (RAK TDA), making RAK a desirable destination for domestic and international visitors.

International arrivals are up on last year, which is also due to a successful strategy by RAK TDA, and possibly another contributing factor is the current instability in other popular tourist spots such as Egypt and Turkey.
