Director of tourism development and marketing department, Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD), Yamina Aoucher exclusively speaks to Emily Millett about Ajman’s appeal to upscale travellers.
TTG: Why are high-end travellers visiting Ajman? What attracts them to the emirate?
The presence of hotel brands from international luxury hotel groups attracts luxury travellers to the emirate of Ajman. The Ajman Corniche is home to several five-star hotels such as Fairmont Ajman, Kempinski Hotel Ajman, Ajman Saray and The Ajman Palace offering five-star accommodation along with wonderful spas, dining options and views of the stunning Arabian Gulf.
The emirate’s proximity to other emirates, especially Dubai, drives luxury travellers to Ajman where they can enjoy the city’s serene white shores and cultural attractions while experiencing true warm Arabian hospitality.
Visitors to Ajman are increasing and this comes with a lot of expectations. Therefore, industry players and stakeholders are responding and fulfilling the demands of our visitors to provide the highest standard of service, facilities and activities.
TTG: How have you seen the luxury tourism industry in the GCC change and evolve over the current year, and what do you think influences these changes?
Luxury travel is expected to remain strong in the region despite several factors affecting the industry. But since majority of luxury travellers are mostly Gulf nationals and western expatriates, the UAE is still in a strong position to [cater to] the demands of these travellers who are looking for unique destination for their ultimate holiday experience.
Each of the emirates has its own distinct offering and Ajman is located in the middle, so travellers will have easy access to a lot of attractions whether in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Fujairah or Ras Al Khaimah.
TTG: What is ATDD’s latest news, plans and expectations for rest of the year?
Ajman has accomplished and is still accomplishing noticeable progress through tourism development that supports the entry of foreign tourism into the emirate, as it has been focusing on attracting tourists from all over the world.
This year Ajman will welcome the opening of another luxurious property to add to the list of international hotel brands that are present in the emirate. Oberoi Al Zorah is opening by the beginning of 2017 and the Al Zorah Golf Club which opened last December 2015 is getting great feedback from players and the industry.
